Austin: Zach Baker, a Junior from the Region 4 Champion Tigersharks Swimming and Diving teams, continued his dominance in the 100 yd breaststroke, coming away with another Texas High record in that event and a Class 4A State Gold medal. Baker shattered the old record time set back in 2004 with a time of 58.98. Overall, both THS squads totaled 104 ½ points, good enough for a 16th overall finish against 72 teams in the Class 4A State division.

Texarkana College: Both Texas High squads ended the regular season on a positive note snuffing out regional contender Nacogdoches Dragons with convincing wins in swimming and diving here at the Pinkerton Center pool. In their last regular competition for both schools, the THS boys claimed their victory 194 to 111 and the THS girls also showcased their depth with a 192 to 98 victory.

Frisco: By far, the Frisco 4A North Texas Tisca Championships has been the largest competition that the Tigersharks have faced this year. The Tigersharks however were not intimidated, and even though neither team earned overall victories, eyebrows were raised as to what to expect from them in the upcoming District and Regional Championships. Still much room for improvement, now the THS squads know where they are going to have to get to possibly make it to the State Championships in February, thanks in part to how they finished here at the North Texas Championships. The THS boys earned a 2nd place overall finish with 275 points behind Frisco Wakeland with 433.50 and the Lady Tigersharks finished 4th behind host Frisco earning a total of 157 points. Medalists for the THS squads included Junior Chris Radomski who earned a Silver Medal in the 100 yd Butterfly, and Zach Baker (100 breast) and Ann Marie Hilborn (1 meter diving) who each earned a Bronze medal in their respective event. Below are the final results of each event.

Rockwall: Normally, a 4A school never has a chance against a 5A school when a sports competition arises, but the Texas High Tigersharks competed against 3 different 5A schools never flinching taking 5 of 6 victories from Richardson Pearce, Jesuit and Ursaline in a quad-dual meet. The Texas High boys took swept all 3 teams 207-92 (Richardson Pearce), 157-148 (Jesuit Prep), and 223-65 (Rockwall High School). The Lady Tigersharks managed 2 out of 3 victories including 190-71 victory against Rockwall and 177-100 against Richardson Pearce. The Lady Tigersharks came up just short against 5A state championship contender Ursaline 166 to 131. But according to Coach Auel, “5 victories out of 6 going out of our boundaries against all 5A schools was a very good challenge for us and we responded admirably”.

Texarkana College: If you were to ask Coach Auel what equation might have added up to a Tigersharks Sweep this weekend, he would probably say, Hard work + Weight Training = SUCCESS. Obviously, that plus the Tigersharks perseverance to not lose in their own pool, resulted in a Tigersharks sweep in both the Boys and Girls Divisions against 9 schools at the Northeast Texas Texarkana Tisca Championships. The same equation also accounted for 3 new meet swimming records and 2 new high point diving records for the Tigersharks squad. The new meet records by the Lady Tigersharks were established by the squad of Ashton Latham, Madeleine Pellegrin, Kristin McCasland, and Amy McCoy (1:56.87) in the 200 Medley IM. Individually performances saw Amy McCoy earned a new meet record in the 50 yd freestyle (26.11), and Ann Marie Hilborn scored a solid diving performance on the 1 meter board with a new meet scoring record total for 11 dives of 323.20 points. The Tigersharks boys squad also got in the meet record party with the 200 Free Relay team comprised of Chris Radomski, Brenan Hile, Josh Klein, and Nick Sehy, with their victory for that event (1:32.51). Walker Lambert sprung into action high flying his way to a new meet scoring record in the 1 meter diving with a gold medal score of 340.20 . Overall, 4 different schools including Texas High’s totals earned a total of 15 meet records. Even with Regional 4 opponents Nacogdoches Dragons and Lady Dragons earning 7 of the 15 meet records, those great performances could not deny the Tigersharks and Lady Tigersharks their overall titles. Overall the Texas High Boys scored a total of 620 points outdistancing Nacogdoches by 143 points and the Lady Tigersharks overwhelmed Lucas Lovejoy by 177 points. Here is a breakdown of the medal performances by the Tigersharks.

Frisco: What was originally scheduled as a double dual meet with the Tigershark squads competing against both Wakeland and Centennial squads, ended up being a tri-dual meet with a very talented squad from Edmond, Oklahoma also participating. But even one more school added to the mix, and many Texas High athletes out due to illness or injury didn’t spoil the party for the Tigersharks as the Boys squad bested the Oklahoma squad 64 to 37, outdistanced the Wakeland squad 59 to 43, and completely manhandled the Centennial squad 81 to 15. The Lady Tigersharks edged by Wakeland 55 to 43, and squeaked by Centennial (52 to 46) for their two victories, but were doubled by a very talented Oklahoma squad (66-32). A contributing factor to the results were the fact that the Tigersharks had 4 athletes in the meet with only one other school (Wakeland) having the only other participant in the diving events.

Texarkana: The Texas High Tigershark and Lady Tigersharks both claimed convincing victories against an outmanned Lucas Lovejoy squad here at the Texarkana College Pinkerton Center Pool. The Tigersharks (2-0) tripled the score of the Leopard squad with a 218 to 75 victory and the Lady Tigersharks earned their first win of the season (1-1) with a 173-100 score. This meet also unveiled the 2012-2013 edition of the Tigershark and Lady Tigersharks Diving squads with Senior Ann Marie Hilborn posting a victory with 182.60 points and the tandem of Calvin Lourens and Reece Griffin posting second and third place (153.75 and 149.65 respectively) finishes.

The Colony: Texas High got their first real taste of competition travelling to the Lewisville Natatorium here for the 2012 Ranger Relays. Overall a 5th place finish and an 11th place for the Tigersharks and Lady Tigersharks respectively may not sound impressive but if you throw out the 5A schools that were also competing, Coach Carl Auel’s squads held their own with the boys squad winning their 4A division with 184 points and the girls claiming 3rd (128 points).

Texarkana: The time “to get your feet wet for the first time in a meet-type atmosphere” came to the 2012-2013 edition of the Tigersharks Saturday here at the Texarkana College Pinkerton Center pool. Though it was only an intra-squad scrimmage with the times only as a guide to see where the athletes are in their training level, most of the athletes were either at or as an improvement in their times. The 2012 Time Trials also showed some promising younger athletes who could step up and contribute to the team almost immediately. As you will see, the top ten of each event made quite a splash with great efforts.
