In the relay events, the Lady Tigersharks Girls 200 Individual Medley placed 4th overall in the state with Ashton Latham, Madeleine Pellegrin, Kristin McCasland, and Amy McCoy in a time of 1:52.39. The Girls 400 Free relay with McCoy, Latham, Autumn Sehy, and Brittany Shipp earned an 13th place finish with a time of 3:45.76. On the boys side, the 200 Free relay of Chris Radomski, Brennan Hile, Rusty Anglin, and Nick Sehy earned an 11th place finish with a time of 1:29.69. An eagerness to get in the water cost the Texas High boys dearly as they were disqualified in preliminaries in the 200 medley relay, and then again in finals on Saturday in the 400 free relay. According to Head Coach Carl Auel, “We told the kids to go for it on the relays and be aggressive on their take-offs.” With tenths of a second that often separate teams in final results, the relay exchanges can often make a big difference. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out as we had practiced and the results weren’t what we had hoped to see.”

Individually, besides Baker claiming the gold medal in the 100 yd Breaststroke, Chris Radomski finished 8th in the highly contested 100 yd Butterfly with a time of 52.31. Ann Marie Hilborn earned a 12th place finish in the Girls 1 meter diving with 290.55 points. Calvin Lourens and Walker Lambert finished 13th and 14th respectively in the Boys 1 meter diving. Amy McCoy earned a 14th place finish in the 50 yd free (25.60) and also earned a 15th place finish in the 100 yd free (56.29). Nick Sehy earned 14th place finishes in both the 100 Free (48.01) and 200 Free (1:44.83).

Other Tigersharks who also participated in the State Championships included Davis Payne and Zack Norton. The Tigershark boys finish the season with a record of 12-2 and the Lady Tigersharks end their season with a record of 9-5.

Overall, the Texas High squads took victories in 16 of the 24 events. Gold medalist included the Girls 200 Medley Relay (Latham, Pellegrin, McCasland, and McCoy), the Boys 200 medley relay (Norton, Baker, Radomski, and Anglin), Brittany Shipp and Nick Sehy in the 200 freestyle, Amy McCoy in the 50 freestyle, Ann Marie Hilborn and Calvin Lourens in 1 meter springboard diving, Chris Radomski in the 100 yd butterfly, McCoy in the 100 yd freestyle, Katelyn Dobbins and Davis Payne in the 500 yd free, Girls 200 free relay (Sehy, Watkins, Pellegrin, and Shipp), Madeleine Pellegrin and Zach Baker in the 100 yd Breaststroke, and both the Girls and Boys 400 yd freestyle relay (Latham, Shipp, McCasland, and McCoy and Radomski, Hile, Anglin, and Sehy).

Lady Tigersharks that made the top 3 in different events included Dobbins in the 200 free with a 2nd place finish. Ashton Latham and Madeleine Pellegrin swept 2nd and 3rd in the 200 IM. Autumn Sehy placed 2nd in the 50 free. Kristin McCasland and Brenna Moore placed 2nd and 3rd in the 100 yd fly. Sehy and Shipp swept 2nd and 3rd in the 100 yd free. Maggie Lopez took 2nd in the 500 yd freestyle. Latham and McCasland took 2nd and 3rd in the 100 yd backstroke and Lexi Watkins took 3rd in the 100 yd breaststroke.

The Tigersharks got their top 3 finishes from Davis Payne and Tyler Snell (sweeping 2nd and 3rd) in the 200 yd free, Derrick and Hile (2nd and 3rd in the 200 IM), Radomski and Baker (2nd and 3rd) in the 50 free, Walker Lambert and Reece Griffin (2nd and 3rd in 1 meter diving), Brenan Hile in 100 yd fly (2nd), Sehy in 100 yd Free, Derrick and Snell (500 yd freestyle), the “A” squad of Hile, Baker, Klein, and Sehy and the “B” squad of Conor Diggs, Snell, Payne, and Derrick in the 200 yd freestyle relay, Rusty Anglin and Zack Norton (2nd and 3rd respectively) in the 100 yd backstroke, Klein in the 100 yd breaststroke, and the “B” squad of Norton, Derrick, Payne, and Klein in the 400 yd Freestyle Relay.

Now that the regular season ends, it’s district championships on the Tigersharks horizon in two weeks where the top 6 finishers from each individual event, and the top 4 divers will continue their season to hopefully the Regional Championships (where once again they will meet these same Nacogdoches Dragons) and then maybe finally a shot at the State Championships the last week of February in Austin.

The holidays means the Tigershark squads get out of competition mode, but will be ready to hit the water again in 3 weeks when they tackle regional foe Nacogdoches January 12th, 2013 in their final tune-up before the District Championships.

In diving, Walker Lambert and Reece Griffin went 1-2 in the 1 Meter Springboard diving and Ann Marie Hilborn earning her victory in the Girls diving. Many Tigershark members earned 2nd place awards including the Girls 200 IM Relay (Ashton Latham, Madeleine Pellegrin, Kristin McCasland, and Autumn Sehy), Chris Radomski in the 50 yd free, McCasland in the Girls 100 yd butterfly, Amy McCoy and Rusty Anglin in the 100 yd freestyle, Davis Payne in the 500 yd freestyle, the Girls 200 yd freestyle relay (Sehy, Brittany Shipp, Pellegrin, and McCoy) and Pellegrin in the 100 yd breaststroke, and the Boys 400 yd freestyle with Sehy, Hile, Klein, and Radomski. Other top 5 finishers included Brittany Shipp and Nick Sehy in the 200 yd freestyle, Latham and Hile in the 200 IM, Lexi Watkins and Autumn Sehy in the Girls 50 yd free and Zach Baker in the Boys 50 yd free, Brenan Hile in the 100 yd butterfly, Shipp and Sehy in the Girls 100 yd freestyle, Zach Norton in the Boys 100 yd freestyle, Maggie Lopez and Nicole Caswell for the girls and Josh Klein for the boys in the 500 yd freestyle, Latham for the girls and Nick Sehy and Zack Norton for the Boys in the 100 yd backstroke and Josh Klein and Conor Diggs earned top 5 in the 100 yd breaststroke.

No rest for the weary as both squads travel to Frisco for undoubtedly their toughest challenge this year for the Frisco Tisca Championships starting this Friday.

The Tigersharks and Lady Tigersharks return to action taking their swimming and diving show on the road to Rockwall, Texas December 8th when the Tigershark Boys tackle Jesuit Prep and the Lady Tigersharks tackle Ursaline Academy for a 9:00 A.M. start.

For the Tigersharks, the team of Chris Radomski, Rusty Anglin, Zach Baker, and Nick Sehy touched first in the 200 Free Relay and 2nd in the 200 Medley Relay. The squad of Brenan Hile, Zack Norton, Zack Derrick, and Davis Payne touched 2nd in the 400 Free Relay. Radomski led the Tigershark charge in the individual events with a 1st and 2nd place finish in the 100 yd butterfly and 50 free respectively. Nick Sehy added a victory in the 200 free and a 3rd place finish in the 100 free to help add to the Tigershark totals. Zach Baker added a 2nd and 4th place finish in the 500 yd freestyle and 100 yd freestyle respectively. Brenan Hile earned a 3rd place finish in the 100 yd butterfly and a 4th place finish in the 200 IM. Zach Derrick earned a 3rd place finish in the 500 yd freestyle and a 4th place finish in the 200 yd freestyle. Josh Klein earned a 3rd place finish in the 100 yd breaststroke and a 5th place finish in the 200 yd free. Rusty Anglin earned a 5th place in the 50 freestyle and 100 yd backstroke. Davis Payne earned a 2nd place finish in the 500 Free. The Tigershark 1 meter divers swept the first 2 places in their event with Walker Lambert and Calvin Lourens and also had a good diving exhibition showing by Reese Griffin.

For the Lady Tigersharks, with major contributor Madeleine Pellegrin sitting out of this meet due to illness, the squad rallied around Seniors Amy McCoy, Autumn Sehy, and Brittany Shipp to grab 2 of 3 victories. The only top 3 finish in the Relay events was recorded by these seniors and Lexi Watkins in the 200 yd freestyle. Individually, the only victories recorded were by Amy McCoy in the 100 yd Free and Ann Marie Hilborn in the 1 meter diving event. Top 5 contributors included 2nd place finishes by Brittany Shipp in the 200 yd freestyle and McCoy in the 50 free. Ashton Latham earned a 2nd place finish in the 100 yd backstroke. Freshman newcomer Kristin McCasland and sophomore Nicole Caswell finished 3rd and 4th respectively in the 500 yard freestyle.

The Tigershark squads have their biggest test of the year as they host the Northeast Texas Texarkana Tisca Championships here at Texarkana College’s Pinkerton Center Pool on Friday November 16th and 17th with Friday’s action starting at noon.

For the boys, Chris Radomski helped lead the charge as the Tigersharks never looked back on a commanding performance. Radomski, along with teammates John David Goins, Zach Baker, and Rusty Anglin posted a 7 second win in the Boys 200 IM Medley Relay. Radomski also swam the lead leg of the 200 Free Relay with Zach Baker, Brennan Hile, and Nick Sehy, also yielding a 7 second win against the Lovejoy Squad. Sehy also anchored the victory in the Boys 400 yd Freestyle Relay along with fellow teammates Hile, Anglin, and Zach Derrick. Individually, Radomski posted victories in both the 50 yd freestyle and 100 yd Butterfly. Other individual victories for the Tigersharks included Nick Sehy in both the 100 and 200 yd Freestyle, Brennan Hile in the 200 IM, Zack Derrick in the grueling 500 yd freestyle, Rusty Anglin in the 100 yd Backstroke, and Zach Baker in the 100 yd breaststroke. In addition to the Tigershark victories, notable top 5 finishers included Davis Payne (2nd in 200 free and 500 free), Freshman Tyler Snell (3rd in 200 free and 4th in 500 free), Freshman Zach Wolf (4th in 200 free and 5th in 100 yd Breaststroke), Zach Derrick (2nd in 200 IM), Conor Diggs (4th in both 200 IM and 100 yd Breaststroke), Luke Calhoun (5th in 200 IM), Zach Baker, Rusty Anglin, and Seth Ream (2nd, 3rd and 5th respectively in 50 free), Brennan Hile and Wesley Black (2nd and 3rd in the 100 yd fly), Zach Norton and John David Goins (3rd and 4th in the 100 yd freestyle), Josh Klein (2nd in 100 yd breaststroke and 3rd in 500 free), and Zach Norton and John David Goins in the 100 yd Back (2nd and 4th respectively).

The Lady Tigersharks victory against the Leopard squad was a little tougher to earn but still the squad hung together and posted the victory. The 200 Medley Relay team of Kristin McCasland, Madeleine Pellegrin, Brenna Moore, and Autumn Sehy set the tone early earning a 1 second victory against the Lady Leopards on the first event of the afternoon. The team of Nicole Caswell, Maggie Lopez, Katelyn Dobbins, and Pellegrin had a good result still earning the team a 2nd place finish in the Girls 200 Free Relay. The 400 yd Free Relay squad of Sehy, Brittany Shipp, McCasland, and Amy McCoy earned a 3 second victory against the Lady Leopards. Amy McCoy led the charge for the Lady Tigersharks in individual victories in both the 50 yd and 100 yd Freestyle and Brittany Shipp in the 200 Free. Other individual honors went to McCasland in the 100 yd butterfly, Dobbins in the 500 yd freestyle, and Madeleine Pellegrin in the 100 yd breaststroke. Top 5 finishes were earned by Maggie Lopez and Dobbins in the 200 free (3rd and 4th), Pellegrin, Lexi Watkins, and Moore in the 200 IM (2nd through 4th respectively), Autumn Sehy and Vega Genesis (3rd and 5th) in the 50 free, Kristen Hall, Moore, and Vega in the 100 yd butterfly (3rd through 5th), Brittany Shipp and Oralia Basurto-Ruiz in the 100 yd free (3rd and 5th respectively), Lopez and Caswell (2nd and 3rd) in the 500 Free. McCasland, Hall, and Basurto-Ruiz swept 2nd through 4th places in the 100 yd backstroke, and Lexi Watkins earned a 4th place finish in the 100 yd breaststroke.

The squads take on a very talented Frisco and Wakeland squad in a Double Dual Meet November 10th at the Frisco Natatorium starting at 11:00 A.M.

On the ladies side, the 200 IM Medley Relay saw Ashton Latham, Madeleine Pellegrin, Katelyn Dobbins, and Senior Amy McCoy placed 6th overall (1:59.77). In the 200 Yard Breaststroke Relay, the team of Lexi Watkins, Maggie Lopez, Brenna Moore, and specialist Madeleine Pellegrin touched 7th overall with a time of 2:23.92. The 400 yd Medley Relay of Latham, Pellegrin, Dobbins, and McCoy touched 8th overall with a time of 4:29.45. 9th place finishes included the team of Kristin McCasland, Lopez, Autumn Sehy, and Watkins in the 200 Free Relay (1:50.68) and Latham, Brittany Shipp, McCasland, and McCoy in the 400 Free Relay (3:57.32). The team of Kristen Hall, McCasland, Oralia Basurto Ruiz, and Shipp touched 11th in the 200 Yd Backstroke Relay. The team of Moore, Watkins, Hall, and Dobbins placed 13th in the 200 yd Butterfly.

On the Boys side, the 200 Yd Butterfly squad of Brenan Hile, Zack Derrick, Zack Norton, and Chris Radomski placed 2nd overall with a time of 1:42.15. In the Boys 400 yard Medley relay, the team of John David Goins, Zach Baker, Radomski, and Nick Sehy placed 4th with a nice time of 3:51.60. Also touching 4th, this time in the 200 Yd backstroke relay, were Seth Ream, Conor Diggs, Norton, and Goins. Davis Payne, Josh Klein, Freshman Conor Diggs, and Baker touched 5th in the 200 yd Breaststroke Relay. In the 200 IM Medley Relay, the team of Goins, Baker, Radomski, and Rusty Anglin touched 6th overall. Finishing 8th in the 400 yd Medley Relay was the team of Sehy, Payne, Klein, and Derrick. On the 200 yd Freestyle relay, the team of Hile, Norton, Payne, and Rusty Anglin touched 10th with a time of 1:36.83.

The Tigersharks begin their head to head competitions against area schools on October 20th when they will host Lucas Lovejoy. This meet will debut the 2012 – 2013 edition of the Tigersharks and Lady Tigersharks Diving squad. All events are scheduled to start at noon at the Texarkana College Pinkerton Center Pool.

On the Girls Side, as expected, returning Senior Amy McCoy led the way with a very nice effort in the 100 freestyle. She was followed by Ashton Latham who dropped 3 seconds, new upcoming freshman Kristin McCasland with a strong 3rd place effort. 4th through 10th place showed Pellegrin, Shipp, Watkins, Dobbins, Lopez, Moore, and Caswell. An interesting observation that showed much promise was Lexi Watkins dropping 12 seconds on this event from last year’s time. After losing the Lady Tigersharks Backstroke record holder Elizabeth Cook to graduation, the THS coaching staff was unsure as to who would step up. Once again Latham got in the top 4 leading the way in the 50 yd backstroke with Freshman McCasland just behind with McCoy third and Shipp fourth. 5th through 10th were Pellegrin, Hall, Lopez, Dobbins, Basurto-Ruiz, and Watkins. In the 50 yd Breaststroke, as expected Junior specialist, Madeleine Pellegrin led the way and is on pace to possibly break the existing THS record very soon with a very nice effort. Those with 2nd through 10th places with great efforts included Watkins, McCoy, Lopez, Latham, Shipp, Moore, Caswell, Dobbins, and McCasland. As expected in the 50 Free, Amy McCoy led the way with a nice swim in the sprint. The other top 9 swimmers however were only 3 seconds behind, so this event could be wide open as to who may be selected for different relays and individual events. Those included Latham, Watkins, McCasland, Shipp, Pellegrin, Lopez, Moore, Caswell, and Dobbins. Also a question mark for this year’s Lady Tigershark squad was who might fill the shoes for the Butterfly events vacated by graduated senior Chelsea Albright. Early indications show that Ashton Latham could fill those shoes quite nicely as she led the way Saturday. 2nd through 9th athletes who continue to improve who could also challenge for that spot include Pellegrin, Dobbins, McCasland, Moore, Watkins, Hall, Shipp, Caswell, and Vega. As for the Individual Medley, that event is wide open as most of these athletes were pretty much even in time. The top 4 were within 4 seconds of each other including Latham, Pellegrin, McCasland, & McCoy. Others to watch include Shipp, Dobbins, Lopez, Watkins, Moore, & Hall.

On the Boys side, with several events vacated by graduated senior record holder Matt Cox, Coaches were curious as to who might be selected to fill certain events. As expected, returning Senior Nick Sehy led the way with a very nice effort in the 100 freestyle. In fact, all the top 10 in this event are returning starters from last year squad. Second through ninth place with great efforts included Baker, Hile, Radomski, Anglin, Norton, Derrick, Payne, Goins, and Klein. An Interesting observation in this event as well showed Zack Norton and Chris Radomski both dropping 3 seconds from last year’s time. In the 50 yd backstroke, Seniors John David Goins and Rusty Anglin were one and two with teammates Norton, Sehy, Baker, Ream, Radomski, Diggs, Derrick, Hile, and Payne. An interesting observation in this event showed Seth Ream dropping 4 seconds from last year’s time. With graduated Breaststroke specialist Collin Hall gone to college, this again was a huge question mark as to who would step up to fill that spot. Zach Baker led the way in the event with four others within 3 seconds of the top. The others in the top ten included Klein, Payne, Diggs, Anglin, Derrick, Norton, Sehy, Calhoon, and Hile. Two of these top 10 were freshman including Connor Diggs who placed 4th and Luke Calhoon placing 9th. The 50 Free is wide open with many who could call upon at a moment’s notice to fill a spot. Those included Nick Sehy leading the way with Anglin, Baker, Radomski, Hile, Goins, Norton, Derrick, Payne, and Klein. The butterfly event was also going to be a tough event to fill, but once again these top ten are so close that the competition is wide open as to who will fill the spot. Those include Chris Radomski who led the way with Hile, Baker, Sehy, Anglin, Norton, Derrick, Payne, Goins, and Klein. The 100 IM is also wide open but Zach Baker showed Saturday that he was the one to beat for this year’s spot. The other top 10 included Sehy, Hile, Derrick, Anglin, Norton, Goins, Payne, Klein, and Freshman Conor Diggs.

The Coaches were very pleased with everyone’s effort and now have a good idea of where most of the athletes will be utilized for the upcoming Jesuit Relays coming up in the coming weeks. However, do keep this in mind….continuing to work hard practicing good training habits, attending all of the practices and workouts, not skipping any sets, and listening to your coaches for their constructive criticism will make you that much better of an athlete and could also “win” you a spot on the travel team. As stated before, all THS Tigershark athletes will participate in the “Home” events, but due to limited space on the bus, and limited entries at most of the meets, not everyone will be selected to swim at the away meets. Doing everything that was underlined, though, could be the difference between making the travel team and not being allowed to make the trip. It’s up to you and your effort. Thanks!!!
