The goal of the ArtsXL program is to provide assistance to teachers by meaningfully integrating art, theatre, dance, and music throughout the academic curriculum.  Teaching through the arts implies an alternative approach to the traditional role of teaching core curriculum and signifies a hope to empower teachers to use their own creative abilities when approaching a lesson.

Another goal of our ArtsXL program is to introduce students to various art forms.  Time is spent creating an environment that is alive with visual and auditory stimulation, making it possible for students to use multiple intelligences.  The fine arts, whether it be painting a portrait or beating a drum, provoke reflection and introspection while satisfying the need to produce and complete work.

Truly, the arts give voice to ideas and feelings in ways no other communication can, largely because they are driven by emotion and passion.  So, in retrospect, a teacher’s own knowledge, strategy, repertoire, enthusiasm, humor, and creativity are forces so powerful they can change a child’s universe.  Change the child, and we change the world.

ArtsXL is the liaison for a partnership with Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council, Inc. (TRAHC).  This organization provides exposure to professional artists who model the art process for our teachers and who team with our teachers to achieve curricular goals.  TRAHC also offers a series of additional professional development workshops on using the arts to successfully enhance teaching.

Our vision is that our schools be distinguished by our academic excellence as a result of our commitment to the arts and humanities.
