Substitute teaching is flexible part time employment that can provide you with an income that works with your schedule. Being a substitute teacher also provides a much needed service for the students and teachers of the district. The goal is to continue classroom instruction in the absence of the teacher.

| The following steps must be completed prior to becoming a Substitute Teacher: |
| Application |
| In order to be considered for employment as a substitute teacher in Texarkana ISD you
must complete a
Substitute Teaching Application. You will also need to provide a copy of high school or college transcripts. Your application remains on file for one year. |
| Training |
Substitute Teacher training sessions are scheduled throughout the school year as the
need for Substitute Teachers increases. Applications are reviewed at this time and invitations are
mailed to selected applicants. This training provides valuable information on district procedures,
legal information, and classroom management. For more information, please see the Substitute Teacher

| Interview |
| Once training has been completed, an interview will be scheduled. At the time of your interview you will need to provide a copy of high school or college transcripts and your driver.s license (for identification purposes only) and social security card (to establish employment eligibility). Other forms of identification and employment eligibility may be accepted with approval. |
| Criminal History |
| A criminal history authorization form must be completed. A background check will be conducted and must be received clear prior to employment. |
| References |
| Letters will be sent to the two references listed on your application. They must be received and rated satisfactory before employment can begin. |

| $45.00 a day
| High School Diploma |
| $50.00 a day
| 90 hours of college

| $93.00 a day
