TISD Board of Trustees Approves Extended Sick Leave During Epidemic

Texarkana, TX – During the Wednesday, January 26, 2022 regular session, Texarkana Independent School District Board of Trustees held Public Hearing on Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR). The annual report consists of a wide range of information on the performance of students in each school and districts in Texas. Performance is shown disaggregated by student groups, including ethnicity and socioeconomic status. The reports also provide extensive information on school and district staff, programs and student demographics. Information for TISD can be found at www.txkisd.net;

*Approved Submission of TEA Expedited Waiver for Staff Development for 2022-23. The waiver is for staff development in place of student instruction and can be in the form of early release, all day or a combination thereof;

*Approved Resolution regarding Extended Sick Leave during Epidemic. Texarkana ISD’s Extended Sick Leave for the COVID-19 epidemic expired on December 31, 2021. With the continuing epidemic, this resolution would allow the District to provide additional paid leave for an employee diagnosed with COVID-19 or required to quarantine by a federal, state or local order; when advised by a healthcare provider; or when experiencing symptoms and seeking a medical diagnosis. Employees will also be eligible to use accrued leave. This extended epidemic sick leave will be limited to a total of 8 days between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022. An employee is only eligible for a total of 8 days of epidemic sick leave during the 2021-2022 school year;

*Approved a change to the 2021-2022 school calendar due to the loss of three instructional days January 12-14, 2022. February 17, 2022, will be changed from a half-day to a full instructional day for students. February 18, 2022, will remain an instructional planning day, with the authorization to change it without returning to the Board for approval if more instructional minutes need to be added back into the calendar following another unforeseen set of circumstances that might occur before February 18, 2022.

*Approved Order Calling for Trustee Election on May 7, 2022. Incumbents Wanda Boyette, representing District 3 and Bryan DePriest representing District 5 will seek re-election for their respective positions;

*Approved Joint Election Agreement between TISD and the City of Wake Village for the May 7, 2022 Trustee election. For the purposes of having a common polling place, Election Code 11.0581 allows school districts to have a joint election with a municipality, located within the school district, who would be conducting an election on the same date;

*Approved Adoption of Annual Tuition Rate for Ineligible Students. The annual rate is set based upon the Adjusted Basic Allotment the District expects to receive from the State in the 2022-23 school year. For the 2022-23 school year, the rate will be $6,160 per student;
