Public Wake & Funeral Services Scheduled for TISD Board of Trustee Dr. James S Grant

Texarkana, TX – Funeral services for Texarkana Independent School District Board of Trustee, Dr. James S. Grant, have been scheduled for Saturday, November 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Baptist Church, 800 Capp Street. Viewing will be prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. A public Wake will be held Friday, November 23 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Haynes Mortuary, 7238 West 7th Street. The public is welcome to attend.

“I have grown so much from knowing him these last 17 years,” shared Wanda Boyette, TISD Board President and member since 1995. “He was dedicated to quality education and to equality in all things. All children were important and precious to him. As a member of the TISD Board of Trustees, he made me think outside the box and challenged my thought process. Everything he did was for a reason and he never was led by any special agenda.”

“What I will miss most is his smile, the sense of camaraderie and pure joy he brought to our monthly meetings,” Boyette continued. “He was eloquent and articulate and tied verse to what was being done. I never doubted that God was sitting right beside him in all meetings guiding him to do what was in the best interest of TISD and in service to his lord.”

Dr. Grant served as a TISD Board of Trustee for 17 years. He was elected in 1995 to fill the unexpired term of Alvin McCray for District 2. Grant served as Board Vice President from 2004 – 2008, President from 2008 – 2010 and has been the TISD Board Chaplain since 2010.

Superintendent Paul Norton noted, “Dr. Grant was a friend and confidant to many TISD superintendents – myself included.” “His wisdom, guidance and encouragement were strengths that have helped to shape TISD in being the school district that it is today. This is a huge loss in our Tiger Family but Dr. Grant has left behind a legacy that will continue to serve as a guiding beacon to our board of trustees and staff.”
