Tiger Mentors Needed at Texarkana ISD

Texarkana, TX – School age students today have too few people in their lives that are able and willing to support and motivate them to identify and achieve their goals. Texarkana Independent School District wants our students will benefit from a one-on-one relationship with an adult other than their teachers and to that end are on the search for Tiger Mentors.

Tiger Mentors help students gain the skills and confidence to be responsible for their own future. Students began to “be” what they believe other people think of them. If students are given negative images of themselves, they begin to think of themselves accordingly; and may not learn.

The Tiger Mentor program places caring individuals with students who need positive support for their educational and personal growth. Mentors provide consistent caring, support, guidance and concrete help as students go through various challenging periods in their development. They seek to further the development of character and competence in a younger person and are committed to expending time and energy necessary to help the student succeed in school.

Requirements to become a Tiger Mentor are:
*Commit to participate in the program for at least one school year and meet with student once a month;
*Attend a one-hour mentor training program;
*Attend mixer activities;
*Submit an application;
*Conduct all meetings on school grounds.

For more information on how you can become a Tiger Mentor, contact Jo Ann Rice at 903.794.3651 ext. 1035.
