Additional Parking Lot for Dunbar Early Education Center and Playground Equipment for Wake Village Elementary Approved during TISD Board of Trustees Meeting

Texarkana, TX – During their Tuesday, December 17, 2013 regular session, Texarkana Independent School District Board of Trustees approved proposals for the addition of more parking space at the Paul Laurence Dunbar Early Education Center and for the purchase of new playground equipment for Wake Village Elementary School.

With the increased enrollment for Dunbar Early Education Center, additional parking space is needed other than what is currently available on West 10th Street. Requests for competitive sealed proposals were advertised with eight firms submitting a bid. Bids were evaluated by the Building Maintenance and Purchasing departments with recommended contract awarded to Contech for $82,639.05. Costs will be funded through construction funds and work will begin in early January with a finished date of late February.

The second proposal approved was for the purchase of playground equipment for Wake Village Elementary School. Current playground items were installed in 1993 and although still in good condition, the district anticipates that they will need to be removed within the next two years. Three competitive sealed proposals were submitted to TISD and reviewed by the Risk Management and Purchasing departments. The recommended contract is being awarded to Child’s Play for $46,238. The fully modular play structure will be installed by May 2014.
