Jostens Selects Four THS Student Photographers as National Photo Contest Winners

Texarkana, TX – Today, Jostens announced the winners of its nationally acclaimed 2014 Photo Contest and four of the 68 recipients were Texas High School Commercial Photography students.

The annual competition, co-sponsored by Jostens and Wolfe’s Camera, celebrates the creative and innovative talents of student photographers from schools across the country. The competition empowers students to positively capture their school experiences and share the stories of their entire school communities through photography.

Eight categories were featured in this year’s contest: Academics/Community Service, Graduation, Illustration/Manipulation, Portrait, Sports: Athletes in Action, Sports: Sidelines & School Spirit and Student Life & Traditions.

Photographic work from four Texas High School students were among 68 winners selected from more than 5,000 contest entries submitted by high school, junior high and middle school students, nationwide. Photo contest submissions were judged on composition, artistic merit and technical qualities, as well as the ability to convey a compelling story.

National winners were:
Kelsi Brinkmeyer, Junior, Second Place in Portrait for her photo “Beetle Bug”;

Savannah Pritchard, Junior, Third Place in Sports Sidelines category with her photo “Record Breaking”;

Sara Rogers, Junior, Third Place in Academics/Community Service category for her photo “Ouch!”;

Carlie Clem, Senior, Honorable Mention in Sports Action category for her photo “Off the Block.”

“Jostens is thrilled to recognize the extraordinary talents of students across the country. The winners of the photo contest were able to capture a variety of school experiences through the lens of the camera,” said Sara Sausker, Jostens Program Manager/Education. “The judges held the photographs to professional standards. The technical quality and story-telling ability of these photos cannot be topped.”
