TISD Superintendent Appointed to Texas Policy Commitee on Public Education Information
Texarkana, TX – Paul Norton, Superintendent of Schools for Texarkana Independent School District, has been appointed to the Policy Committee on Public Education Information (PCPEI) by Commissioner of Education Michael Williams.
Originally formed in 1991, the PCPEI serves as an advisory group to review Texas Education Agency information requirements and to address policy issues and information needs that support students’ educational requirements. The PCPEI also serves as the final approval for the optional Texas Student Data System which is used by Texas educators as a tool in the classroom, campus and at the district level.
“It is an incredible honor to be selected to serve on the Policy Committee on Public Education Information,” shared Norton. “As a member of this advisory committee, I want to make sure we are collecting appropriate and useful data. So many times, we collect data simply because it is the data we have always captured. We need to ensure that the data collected, along with the collection process, is appropriate. It must be data that will help us make decisions for future educational needs.”
The PCPEI is comprised of 35 members representing Superintendents, Executive Directors of Education Service Centers and legislative members. The committee meets quarterly in Austin, TX.
