Top Placement Earned by THS UIL Academic Students during District 15-5A Competition

Texarkana, TX – Texas High School UIL Academic Team members scored top placements, along with an overall Fourth Place finish during the District 15-5A University Interscholastic League Academic Meet held on March 28.

Those students earning individual 1st, 2nd or 3rd place will now advance to the Region II UIL Meet on April 23-24 in Nacogdoches, TX. Additionally, the Social Studies Team, who scored in the state Top Ten, will advance to the Regional Meet.

Placements, subjects and coaches are as follows:

Accounting: Kaulyn Loe – 5th Place. Coached by Pam Hamilton.

Current Issues & Events: David Mitchell – 4th Place. Coached by Chad Evans.

Editorial Writing: Anna Cannon – 5th Place. Coached by Rebecca Potter.

Feature Writing: Anna Cannon – 1st Place. Coached by Rebecca Potter.

Headline Writing: Brianna O’Shaughnessy – 4th Place. Coached by Rebecca Potter.

Informative Speaking: Robert Hoover – 3rd Place; Robin Cooper – 5th Place. Coached by Amy Kemp.

Persuasive Speaking: Jillian Cheney – 2nd Place; Caleb Snow – 4th Place. Coached by Amy Kemp.

Poetry Interpretation: Caroline Parks – 1st Place. Coached by Amy Kemp.
