TISD Board of Trustees One of Sixteen Regional Nominees for Texas Outstanding School Board Award

Texarkana, TX – For their outstanding commitment to students and to the community, the Texarkana Independent School District Board of Trustees is one of sixteen school districts in Texas to be named a regional nominee for Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) 2015 Outstanding School Board Award.

“We are beyond thrilled that the members of our TISD Board of Trustees have been selected as one of sixteen regional nominees from a field of 1,031 school districts,” shared Paul Norton, Superintendent of Schools. “Together, these individuals have 46 years of service to the children of TISD. Their leadership exemplifies dedication to meeting the needs of a diverse student population; courage to be innovative in maximizing resources; and an insatiable desire to continue moving the district forward.”

The TASA School Board Awards Program was established in 1971 to recognize the dedication and service of school boards that make a positive impact on the school children of Texas.

Criteria considered for selection was based on the school board’s support for educational performance, support for educational improvement projects, commitment to a code of ethics and maintenance of harmonious and supportive relationships among board members.

“The individuals who make up the TISD Board of Trustees keep the focus of their efforts where it should be – the education, development, and betterment of the over 7,000 students who make up our district,” stated Paul Miller, TISD Board President. “With complete confidence that fellow board members have the same unified focus, there is never a questioning of motives or agendas. This complete lack of personal agendas leads not only to frank and open discussions of ideas but allows a freedom to push the envelope and explore possibilities and new approaches that benefit our district.”

TASA’s School Board Awards Committee will meet in late August to select up to five of the nominated boards to be recognized as Honor Boards. Those finalists will be interviewed at the TASA/TASB Convention in Austin on October 2-4 with one being named Outstanding School Board of the Year.
