Texas High School Senior Named National Merit Scholarship Finalist

Texarkana, TX – Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of Finalists in the 61st annual National Merit Scholarship Program – one of them being Texas High School Senior, Leah Crenshaw.

These academically talented high school seniors will now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered in the Spring.

To become a Finalist, a Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test (PSAT/NMSQT). Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Crenshaw is currently Co-Captain of the Lady Tigers Soccer Team, Viewpoint Editor for the Tiger Times, Vice President of International Thespian Society Troupe 2526 and Vice President of Membership for Rosebud Junior Garden Club. She is an Officer for Quill & Scroll Honorary Society for High School Journalists and serves as Secretary for the Calculus Club. Crenshaw is a member of the Tiger Theatre Club, Key Club, Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society, National Honor Society, and is actively involved in UIL Ready Writing and Technical Theatre Design.

She is the daughter of Mary Kaye and Holt Crenshaw.
