Junior League of Texarkana Reveals Extreme Makeover for Dunbar Early Education Center Library
Texarkana, TX – With a lot of help from their friends in the Junior League of Texarkana (JLT), the Paul Laurence Dunbar Early Education Center has had an extreme makeover of their library.
The big reveal of the new learning hub for the school will be held on Friday, April 8 at 1:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
In August 2015, the Provisional Class of the JLT elected to make the extreme makeover library edition their community project for the year. Since that time, they have successfully raised funds to: buy new books; paint; create a reading nook and listening center; add bookshelves, rugs, rocking chair and a bulletin board.
“The Junior League of Texarkana’s focus area centers on helping provide a future for the community children by creating opportunities, services and protection essential for their physical, intellectual, emotional and social growth,” commented Colby Pair, Project Leader and member of JLT Provisional Class. “During our initial project discussions, the Dunbar Early Education Center library was brought to our attention. We found that this fit perfectly within our focus and gave us an opportunity to help shape the future minds of these students by helping provide tools to encourage a love for reading and education in general.”
Now complete, JLT members are proud to open the doors to the Pre-Kindergarten students of Dunbar Early Education Center.
“We are so appreciative of the JLT’s efforts,” shared Lakesha Taylor, Principal. One of the main objectives in early childhood education is to instill a love of reading in students. The more children are exposed to books, the more they learn to love them and become better learners.”
