Texas Middle School 6th Grade Students Earn Top Placement at TMSCA Competition

Texarkana, TX – Four Texas Middle School 6th Grade students earned Top Ten placement during the Texas Math & Science Coaches Association (TMSCA) competition on November 12 in Atlanta, TX.

Victoria Hayden earned 2nd Place in Science with Reagan Raney taking 3rd Place. Said Hernandez finished 2nd Place in Mathematics while Olivia Huckabee received 6th Place.

The Science test is a 50-question exam that is solved in 40 minutes. The test challenges students to do a wide range of reading in earth science and life science, to gain an understanding of the significance of experiments rather than to recall details, to be alert to new discoveries and information in the areas of science, to gain an understanding of the basic principles as well as knowledge of the history and philosophy of science, and to foster a sense of enthusiasm about how science affects our lives.

The Mathematics test is a 50-question exam that is solved in 40 minutes. The test is designed to knowledge and understanding in the areas of Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Math Analysis, Analytic Geometry, Pre-Calculus and elementary Calculus.

Formed in 1981, TMSCA is an organization formed by Texas math and science teachers to promote excellence in math and science through competition.
