Texas High School Art Students Receive 21 Superior Ratings at Regional Visual Arts Scholastic Event - Ginger Moore Advances to State Competition

Texarkana, TX – Texas High School students participated with 400 other students from Region VIII in the 12th Annual Region VIII Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) held on February 23 at Pleasant Grove High School bringing home 21 Superior Ratings.

Sponsored by the Texas Art Education Association, VASE provides the opportunity for students to bring artworks created in their art classes to a regional event where they are interviewed by a certified juror who evaluates their work based on a standards-based rubric and their understanding of the art processes involved in the development of their artwork. The jurors look for originality of concept, technical expertise, understanding of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and the interpretation of the student’s stated intent.

Jurors evaluate the student artwork using the following standard: Rating 4 Superior; Rating 3 Excellent; Rating 2 Average and Rating 1 Below Average. Students compete on four different experience levels depending on the credits in art that the student has received at the time of the regional event.

Ginger Moore, sophomore, received a Superior Rating 4 and will advance to the State competition on April 4 in Bryan, Texas.

Students receiving two Superior 4 Ratings for their entries were: Amber Audirsch, Allie Cunningham, Sarah Hacker, Tab Hartman, Ginger Moore and Preston Reed.

Additional students receiving a Superior 4 Rating are: Krysten Dansby, Cole Fore, Christina Harris, Maggie Lopez, Misty Morris, Kayro Mondragon, Alax Neff, Carlos Perales and Krista Petty.
