Rebecca Potter, Texas High School Publications Advisor, Honored for Commitment to Texas Scholastic Journalism

Texarkana, TX – The Texas Association of Journalism Educators (TAJE) has honored Rebecca Potter, Texas High School Publications Advisor, with the Texas Trailblazer Award.

The award seeks to honor educators who are on the forefront of high school journalism. These advisors are risk-takers, work to expand the scope and capability of Texas Scholastic journalism and endeavor to push the envelope of conventional scholastic journalism to new venues or methods.

Potter has been in the field of education for 24 years and with the TISD Tiger Family for 20 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Political Science from Baylor University and a Master’s in Curriculum & Instruction from University of Missouri at Columbia. Potter began serving as the Texas High School Publications Advisor in 2001 and has led students to win numerous Columbia Scholastic Press Association Crown Awards, National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker Awards and Interscholastic League Press Conference Star Awards.

“Mrs. Potter is truly one of the best in her field as evident by receiving this award,” said Brad Bailey, Principal of Texas High School. She has shaped the school’s efforts in journalism, has been key to our students and publications setting trends across the state and has always worked toward students achieving success and receiving accolades for top effort in their work.”
