TISD Board of Trustees Approve Budget & School Calendars and Make Policy Amendments
Texarkana, TX – The Texarkana Independent School District Board of Trustees reviewed and/or approved the following during their February 19, 2019 regular session:
*Approved Budget Calendar for FY 2019-20. Surveys and needs assessments for the coming school year have been reviewed since December 2018. Campuses and departments will prepare and present their budget requests by end of March. TISD will hold first budget reading on April 16 with public hearing on budget, proposed tax rate and final budget approval on June 25;
*Approved amendment to duties and requirements of depository - Policy BDAE Local. As a District of Innovation, TISD will now be exempt from the requirement to review depository banking services every two years. The District will continue with a depository bank for as long as it is beneficial to the District;
*Approved student discipline out-of-school suspension - Policy FOB Local. As part of being a District of Innovation, TISD will now be exempt from the state law which generally prohibits school districts from placing a student who is enrolled in a grade level below grade 3 in out-of-school suspension unless the student engages in serious misbehavior as defined by law’
*Approved the school calendar for 2019-20. First day of school for students will be August 14, 2019 with the last day of school on May 21, 2020. TISD will release the newly approved calendar via their website, social media pages and parent/guardian email during this week;
*Approved the Joint Election Agreement between TISD and the City of Wake Village for the May 4, 2019 Trustee election. Trustees running for re-election are Wanda Boyette – District 3 and Bryan DePriest – District 5.
The next regular session meeting for the TISD Board of Trustees will be Tuesday, March 19, 2019.
