REACH program
Rigor Encourages Academic & Career Heights
The REACH program at Texarkana Independent School District is designed to help bridge the academic achievement gap, particularly among underserved and underrepresented populations, through equity, access, cultural responsiveness and promotion of citizenship. It is a college preparatory elective class offered to staff nominated and selected Texas Middle School and Texas High School students in grades 6-12.
Students accepted into the program will...
- Be the first in their family to attend college
- Demonstrate motivation and tenacity
- Have a willingness to work with others
- Maintain acceptable attendance
- Demonstrate and practice responsibility, accountability and initiative in class and in out-of-class preparations
- Practice good citizenship and classroom behavior
- Maintain a 2.0-3.5 GPA
- Demonstrate leadership skills
Participating students receive academic and motivational support to succeed in a rigorous course of study. This support includes in-class tutoring and coaching, collaborative learning, campus visits, college recruiter and alumni visits and mentoring by area business and community leaders. The REACH curriculum is designed to introduce, practice, and master the skills outlined in the TEKS, but will also include character education and college & career readiness components.
