Parental Consents

New Parental Consent Forms – What You Need to Know

A grand stone dome rises toward a clear blue sky, with the United States and Texas flags flying in the foreground.

Legislation passed during the 89th Texas Legislature expanded parental rights and established new notice and consent requirements for certain school-based services, activities, instruction, and health-care services. Some services require a parent or guardian to provide consent before a student may participate, while others require parent notification and provide parents the right to withhold consent.

Parental Rights and Options

Texarkana ISD values the important role parents and guardians play in their child's education. We are committed to keeping families informed and providing clear, accessible information about the rights and options available to parents under Texas law.

The Texas Education Agency's Parental Rights and Options Form provides an overview of many of the rights and options available to parents and guardians under the Texas Education Code. These include rights related to instructional materials, student programs and services, health care and health-related services, counseling, student records, special programs, and other areas of a child's education.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to review the form and become familiar with the rights, options, and resources available to them.
