TISD Students Complete Mission Patch Design Competition

Texarkana, TX -The Texarkana Independent School District completed the Mission Patch Design Competition in February. Students planned and designed a patch that described the Mission 16 experiment, "The Effects of Space Travel and Microgravity on Hybrid Brine Shrimp Eggs." The selected experiment was designed by Texas Middle School 6th grade students Tiffany Bowen, Jaeden Rios, and Rivers Glass. Their experiment will travel to the International Space Station in October 2022.

The selected Mission 16 patches will travel with our experiment to the ISS.The Mission Patch Design Competition consisted of an elementary competition involving our K-5 campuses and a secondary competition involving our middle and high school Fine Art students.

There were 3064 mission patches submitted from our elementary level competition. At the secondary school level, grades 6-12, there were 852 mission patches submitted. The 10 person Mission Patch committee, including teachers, administrators, and community members, spent time evaluating the submissions, before narrowing down the selections to 4 top finalists at the elementary level, 4 top finalists in 6-8 secondary, and 4 top finalists in 9-12 secondary.

The Elementary top 4 finalists are:

Jayden Foreman - 4th grade from Spring Lake Park
Isabelle Strange - 5th grade from Waggoner Creek
Laylee Singleton - 5th grade from Waggoner Creek

The Middle School top 4 finalists are:
Elizabeth Sharp - 8th grade
Lucero Castro - 8th grade
Sydney King - 7th grade
Dlaney Dwyer - 8th grade

The High School top 4 finalists are:
Persephone Bainbridge - 9th grade
LaBrandon Henderson - 10th grade
Taniyah Aldridge - 11th grade
Alberto Gonzalez - 12th grade

Our Elementary Patch winner was 1st grade student, Jacie Ramsey from Spring Lake Park, with a design honoring our SSEP team and their experiment flying into space.

Our Secondary Patch winner was Sophomore, Astrid Cabrera, with a design demonstrating the love for ourschool district, Mission 16, and space.

All student finalists and Patch winners will be honored.
