Texarkana ISD is proud to announce that Martha & Josh Morriss Mathematics & Engineering Elementary has been named a 2025 Leader in Me Lighthouse Academic Honor Roll school for the fourth consecutive year, a prestigious recognition awarded to a select group of schools demonstrating both academic excellence and a strong culture of student leadership.

The Lighthouse Academic Honor Roll distinction is awarded to schools that have earned and maintained Leader in Me Lighthouse Certification while also achieving exemplary results on state accountability measures. According to SchoolDigger.com, the independent nonprofit organization responsible for evaluating the academic criteria, Morriss Elementary scored in the 99.8th percentile statewide for academic proficiency.

“This recognition reflects our school’s commitment to cultivating both the academic and leadership potential of every student,” said Principal Patti O’Bannon. “It’s a celebration of our teachers, our students, and the strong culture built together at Morriss."

Leader in Me is a schoolwide framework based on Stephen R. Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People®, focusing on empowering students with the leadership and life skills they need to thrive in school and beyond.

Superintendent Dr. Doug Brubaker added, “The Morriss Elementary team exemplifies what’s possible when leadership, innovation, and high expectations come together. We are proud of their continued excellence and national recognition.”

As part of the honor, the school received a special decal to display on its existing Lighthouse Banner, signifying its place among the top Leader in Me schools across the globe.

Kindergarten enrollment for the 2025–2026 school year began on November 1. Applications are available here.
