The Texarkana Independent School District (TISD) is thrilled to announce that the Texas High School Online News Program, Tiger Times Online, has been nominated for a Star Award by the Interscholastic League Press Conference (ILPC), the University Interscholastic League’s (UIL) journalism division.
This esteemed recognition places Tiger Times Online among Texas’s top scholastic journalism programs. The ILPC Star Awards, which have been celebrating excellence in high school journalism since 1925, evaluate hundreds of student publications through a rigorous judging process by industry professionals.
“This nomination is an acknowledgment of the hard work, creativity, and commitment of our students and their adviser, Clint Smith,” said Ben Renner, Principal of Texas High School. “We are incredibly proud of the journalism program they’ve built and the valuable real-world experience they gain through storytelling and reporting.”
As part of the next phase, Tiger Times Online will advance to the final round of judging, where a panel of journalism education professionals will select the recipients of the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Star Awards. During the Grand Awards Ceremony, winners will be announced at the ILPC Spring Convention at the University of Texas at Austin, April 11-13.
“Being recognized at this level is an incredible honor,” said Clint Smith, Online News Adviser. “Our students work diligently to maintain journalistic integrity, produce quality reporting, and engage with the school community. This nomination reflects their dedication and passion for the craft.”
TISD congratulates the Tiger Times Online team on this prestigious achievement and eagerly anticipates the final award announcements in April.
